Are you a

Great Lines

I have a thing for first lines…

I study them. Enjoy them. Am always looking for another to add to my list of greats.

But when I think of great lines, lately a few have come to mind that aren’t firsts and they aren’t from books. Last week I mentioned the show Gilmore Girls. On the show there’s a fabulous character named Logan and he has some of the best lines ever.

I say the best lines ever because they are total romance novel potential here.

In one episode he takes Rory (who he considers his first girlfriend after a looooong line of flings) to his parents home (aka mega mansion…see, romance novel potential. Oh, and he drives a Porsche). Dinner is tense. Logan’s sister announces her engagement, but because Logan has brought a “girlfriend” home his family believes he intends to marry Rory and thus start a fight.

As they’re leaving, Rory (who has impeccable manners, comes from a wealthy family herself, everyone adores her, oh and did I mention she was the valedictorian of her private school and now goes to Yale?) doesn’t understand why they don’t like her. Why they weren’t objecting to his sisters engagement.

Logan turns to her and says “he’s not marrying the heir to the Huntzberger fortune, you are.” (He being Logan’s sister’s fiance.) Can I just say swoon!

And later, after some serious unfortunate circumstances leave Rory homeless at college, Logan offers to let her move into his apartment. They go away (to Martha’s Vineyard no less) for Valentine’s day weekend only it’s cut short when Logan’s dad (overbearing jerk…remember, I mentioned this show makes me emotional) shows up and demands that he leave for London at once. (Logan’s dad owns LOTS of newspapers around the world and you guessed it, Logan has to follow in daddy’s footsteps.)

Resigned, Logan leaves and Rory walks him out. He hands her his car keys and says “Take the Porsche home.” Ahh, bliss. Words I’ve always longed to hear. Hey, a girl can dream!
