A Much Needed Kick in the Pants

I’ve been working on a contemporary romance for a while. Somewhere along the way I began to flounder (I think it was towards the middle) and have my doubts and suddenly realize new things about my characters and even the genre (which I had thought I’d locked down from the beginning.)

Amazing how all of this nonsense can take a story (and characters) you love and just leave you hanging in limbo. That’s where I’ve been, limbo, for approximately six months.

Yesterday, I’m proud to admit, I gave myself the kick in the pants that I needed to move forward with the project. It wasn’t easy. In fact it was downright hard because as with any forward movement after any length of stagnet uncertainty, it’s hard to continue on, being brave in the decisions you make. It’s sort of like stepping onto a bridge that you’re not sure will hold you. Or worse, you’re not even sure the bridge is there.

Sort of like a leap of faith, I suppose.

Nevertheless, I have new direction. I’ve sorted out some key issues that were giving me problems. Have rethought plot points, GMC, and even some of the character’s backstory. Now it’s just time to write, write, write. I have a new goal of 1k a day until this puppy is finished.

So. How was your day? :)

Which foot did you use to kick yourself? I can’t decide if I should use my right or left for this very same problem. Please advise. :)

Hey Kristen, thanks for stopping by! It was my right foot. My left knee and I aren’t on speaking terms at the moment (it’s still whining about an injury that happened 16 years ago, can you believe it?) which makes it hard to communicate with the left foot. :)
